O cinema nacional revigorado revelou-se a forma mais profícua de debate. Carlota Joaquina, O Quatrilho, Abril despedaçado, Carandiru, Cidade de Deus. O filme conseguiu o impensável: desagradar gregos e troianos (críticos de cinema) e de quebra angariar a simpatia de crianças, adolescentes e de todas “As pessoas (que) esperam uma polícia mais violenta, mais agressiva, uma polícia punitiva”, de acordo com o ex-BOPE, capitão Rodrigo Pimentel. E logicamente uma polícia que não só não cumpra a lei como faça leis próprias. “O nosso símbolo (uma caveira, dois revólveres, uma faca) mostra o que acontece quando a gente entra em uma favela (...) matar com eficiência e dignidade”. Capitão Nascimento, o protagonista, na performance impecável de Wagner Moura.

Polêmico, o filme gerou mais bate-boca e disputa de egos do que um debate sério e urgente sobre esta abominável realidade da polícia especializada brasileira, no caso, o BOPE-RJ. Denúncia de corrupção policial, exaltação do BOPE, apologia à violência e ao crime recheado por frases de cunho moral, intolerância e discriminação.  A “classe média”, seja lá o que isto signifique para os produtores, é a única culpada pela violência e outras mazelas sociais do país.

Um festival de fanfarronice que “Apesar da recepção majoritariamente negativa na mídia internacional - a produção brasileira chegou a ser chamada de “fascista” pela revista americana “Variety” - a tropa abocanhou o urso de ouro da Berlinale”. Folha online/17-02-08.

Apesar da "tropa" querer dar-lhe um cunho intelectualóide, um filme que promove  o debate sadio sobre a miserabilidade como são tratados os pobres deste país, ficou a impressão geral de limitações, oportunismo, apropriação sem aprofundamento de questões sobre o caos social da nação e a naturalização da desigualdade e da violência sobre cerca de 34% da população, quase 60 milhões de brasileiros que vivem na corda bamba entre a miséria e/ou  abaixo da linha de pobreza. Os frutos do primeiro governo Lula só iriam aflorar na mídia com o surgimento da Nova classe média Brasil Cde a partir de 2007.

Afinal, se “não vi e não gostei” (houve falhas técnicas na apresentação do filme ao júri) poder-se-ia especular que o urso como prêmio foi na verdade, a velha tática do colonizador: trocar espelho pelo ouro, pois tudo levava a crer - geopoliticamente falando_ que estávamos prestes a viver uma nova fase colonialista e de partilha das potências emergentes neste século XXI: a Nova ordem mundial?

Tropa de Elite frutificou como Duro de matar e Sexta-feira 13 com n-edições; a teledramaturgia da rede Globo virou Malhação favela de novela em novela até a superação ou sublimação da favela como personagem central de novela em I love Paraisópolis, onde  ficou escancarada a  real trama por trás das novelas sobre as favelas brasileiras
